Simplicity of God

Can you see God in the simple things?

As promised, this week is a double whammy of posts and they will follow the notion of being able to find God in the simple aspects of life. This has been something that has been on my heart for a while. As Christians, we often fail to notice God in the simple things and it bugs me that we are behaving like this. We have let our own natural desires and wants overtake those of what God is doing for us. In light of what is going on in the world, each week we are waking up to the news of yet another frightening act somewhere in the world. This can have two effects on you as a Christian, you either see this and it gives you the encouragement to start change or it doesn’t faze you because the world is an evil place. A scripture for this time is Psalm 46:10 ‘’be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among all nations and I will be exalted in the earth’’.

The title of this post came to me whilst I was studying Habakkuk 2:2 ‘’write the vision and make it plain’’ sometimes we ask God for such big, big things which is good. Expand your faith in God and watch him come through. BUT, don’t always expect God to answer you with a drastic move. We often think that God will answer our prayers by a BIG change when sometimes it is a simple but clear answer. We fail to notice because we are too consumed with ourselves and again, we are comfortable in relying on God to answer us in a way that we understand and know.

God is in the simple things.

One thing that I have really learnt so far this year is that, although it is good to find God in everything we can overdo it. As we are called to be spiritual beings, some of us often forget that this comes with the flesh body that we have. This means that we need to consider the fact that we are human. Mistakes, regret and doubt are all factors that we will and have faced at some point in our lives and although we shouldn’t dwell in the past, it is good to reflect and remember who you were when the blood found you. By doing this, it gives you the opportunity to have compassion and empathy for fellow believers. We have to come to a place where everything we talk about doesn’t have to benefit us that way within a simple conversation you are able to see what God is doing. God is in the simple things.

When was the last time you thanked God for your life, for waking you up this morning, for having clean running water, for having a roof over your head or for your loved ones? At the capacity that the world is we need to be showing more appreciation for what we consider the small things but what others see as the big things. For you to have that revelation of God being simple, you have to take time with him, get to know him as he wants to get to know more of you and by studying his word you will comprehend that God can be let out of the mediocre box that some of us have placed him in. Take God out of this box and find him in the simple part of your life, for example, the friends that you have. Some of them you know you need to let go of but because you keep pushing it back, they continue to do you wrong and you wonder why? When God has told you to do something simply because it is for your own good, please do not hesitate but to obey what God has said.

God is in the simple things.

Have you noticed God in the simple things?

Peace & Love
